Research Paper

During COVID-19, school has changed in the way it is being conducted. For the general public, education is becoming difficult to achieve, but for students with special needs, the difficulties were already there. Based on the challenges, special education students are in need of immediate care to allow them to benefit from their education.

In my research paper, I explored how parents are the pillar to connecting their child with special needs to their education. Parents and teachers connect better being able to individualize their child’s needs with the use of an IEP (Individualized education program). An IEP is an agreement which “creates an opportunity for teachers, parents, school administrators, related services personnel, and students (when appropriate) to work together to improve educational results for children with disabilities” (U.S. Department of Education, 2019). An IEP is important because it allows students to gain an individualized plan, so as a result in my capstone I am creating content, lesson ideas and plans that are individualized to each student. I have recorded multiple videos of reading for students to read along, created worksheets tailored to the students abilities, created storybooks, and found activities that are hand-ons, informational, and creative.
